I own it but it needs a bigger playerbase. The game could enjoy some fine tuning, but it's already a great work. Especially boarding and entering the bridge and controlling a capital ship during a space battle. It is really nice and has a solid art direction, but most importantly a serious technical achievement with Unreal 3. It still retains some traces of Homeworld DNA though. Įmphasis on scientific plausability just like in Elite, but in this game you command and crew a Star Trek inspired Starship.Īpart from Angels Fall First, none can be played right now, but worth keeping an eye on them and supporting the devs.ĪFF was originally intended to be a Homeworld themed Battlefront game, but the devs quicly scrapped the idea and they developed an original universe. Or another indie: Starship Simulator, under development. But there is no economy as far as I know and it's not an MMO, although it looks like it will be an open world sandbox game, with heavy emphasis on piloting a single spaceship with your friends.
Oolite gameplay simulator#
Hyperspace Pirates of Atira is an adventure spaceship crew simulator being developed right now, in pre-alpha right. If OP wants ticket based miltiary shooter on an open field á la Battlefront 2 (the classic) with space battles, ground battles pilotable, fully traversable, boardable capital ships:Īngels Fall First- but it is still in early access. The final udpate in which the poor dev announces the cancellation is a good proof how hard it is to make an "everything game" in a space simulator. Who knows maybe somebody will pick it up.
Oolite gameplay code#
Limit Theory which is the closest Op was looking for, ceased development in 2018 and the dev (a single dev made game) released its source code quite recently. What can I say? Game devs always say MMO games are the hardest to develop. Yeah I know, but I was unable to hold it back when I read the words "similar to Elite". Space Engineers is whole different chapter, game let's you build your own spaceships and instantly fly them, game have also multiplayer Then there are multiplayer games those are focused exclusively on team deathmatch gameplay like Star Conflict or Dreadnought but these games are space (and also air in Dreadnought) only and are more or less dead nowadays
Oolite gameplay series#
Starlancer and it's sequel Freelancer are old but good space simulation games those were developed by Chris Roberts who is responsible for legendary Wing Commander series and above mentioned Star Citizen Game also got prot into mobile devices and got DLCs those giving new quest line, new equipment, ships and opportunity to own a space station

Galaxy on Fire II is also a game similiar to X-series, which again offering selection of ships those can be flown and equipped. It's a series of space simulation games with RPG elements which also offers wast universe, wide variety of ships to fly and equip and each game of series have a fairly good main quest lines, graphics and soundtrack (from Alexei Zakharov).Įverspace 2, which is still in develpment, is planned to offer features symiliar to those in X-series, Star Citizen and Elite Probably closest in similiarity is the X-series. With closest similiarity of Star Citizen's development limbo, resurrected No Man's sky and EvE online there are not much other multiplayer games those can offer same amount of features like Elite but there are some singleplayer games those may be worth of consideration
